Male Initiative
Our Mission
Our mission is fulfilled through the four pillars of our C.A.R.E initiative.
The C in care is for connecting families (fathers and father figures with children).
A is for accountability. We believe in the power of holding fathers accountable as positive reinforcement to ensure families stay connected.
R is for resources, and
E is for education. Providing easily accessible support, information, training, workshops, mentorship, and skill-building helps keep fathers and father figures confident, engaged, and better equipped to serve and provide for children and families.

This Black Dad Activist is Changing the Narrative Around Black Fatherhood
About four years ago, Sean Williams, dad of three—Davynn, 15, Cameron, 4, and Ethan, 3—was prompted to create the Instagram page @TheDadGang after a woman in his largely white neighborhood approached him and then baby Cameron. She congratulated Williams for sticking around to be a dad because, she said, “most Black men wouldn’t.””I realized she was just verbalizing what a lot of people were likely thinking,” says Williams. To change that narrative, he and a few other fathers began posting pictures of Black dads in action, and with that, a community found support.
Even if statistics show that more than half of all Black children live in single-parent families, it doesn’t mean more than half of all Black dads are out of the picture. “Fatherhood is a gift,” says Williams. “We’re breaking the stereotype that says we’re not active. You can be present and not live under the same roof as your children’s mother,” says Williams, who coparents with Davynn’s mom and is married to Cameron and Ethan’s mother.

Parental Addiction
September is National Recovery Month. When a family member struggles with addiction, children feel shame, embarrassment, guilt, and loneliness. Watch this video to help children understand that with love and support families can cope with addiction. After watching, consider discussing the following questions:
- How does Salia explain what addiction is?
- How is Salia’s family the same as your family? How is it different?
- What does Salia do when she has big feelings?
- How does she meditate? Let’s watch again and try it together.
- Why is drawing and writing about her feelings important to Salia?
- What does her family like to do together? What do you like to do with your family?

When a family member struggles with addiction, the whole family struggles. Children often think it’s their fault; they feel shame, embarrassment, guilt, and loneliness; they may feel invisible. It takes special effort to start important conversations and answer children’s questions. But parents, teachers, caregivers, and other caring adults can comfort children and guide them through difficult moments. With love and support, the family can cope with the challenges of addiction together.

What is #Dadication? It’s just like dedication, but it means that as a father, you never stop being a dad. There’s no one right way as long as you’re there for your kids, even when it’s not so easy. Share your story of #Dadication!
We partnered middle-school-aged kids and their caregivers with mental health experts and musical artists like KAMAUU, Tobe Nwigwe, Empress Of, and Lauren Jauregui to create an album of exclusive songs, inspired by the hidden emotions revealed in their conversations. The artists transformed these conversations to help kids express themselves– crafting a song for the feelings of that child. When your kid can’t find the language, help them find the lyrics.
